We will be looking forward to Atlas Shrugged II, III, etc. Hey, this may be as big as Harry Potter.

Sorry, I don’t believe it. Hundreds of thousands (millions?) of us have been waiting for this movie all our adult lives (we read the book when we were in our late teens). We are the core of the opening weekend crowd that will determine whether the movie becomes a mainstream hit, or goes the way of “An American Carol.” If the producers haven’t posted even a teaser trailer by now (1/28), then either they’re not serious about a 4/15 release, or they haven’t thought through their marketing strategy.

Any L.A. theaters lined up yet? I am anxious to purchase tickets for a small group.

The trailer is well crafted and hopefully reflects the technical quality of the entire movie. Now what happens to Rand’s philosophical message is something else…

I too (like some of those posting here) first read Rand in my mid-teens (16 in fact, and with Anthem – done in 1 hour! it was riveting) and have gone through many promises of films of Atlas Shrugged. I definitely am looking forward to seeing this production. It may even get me into a theater, something I’ve not had any desire to do for many years – willing to wait for the few DVDs deemed worth buying.

You obviously don’t know anything about Ayn Rand, her books, her philosophy or the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party to make such an ignorant statement. The movie is being released on April 15th, TaxDay. get a clue.

I have waited 45 years for this, and I pray it is true to the Authors message.. First read Atlas Shrugged in 1967, at 16 years old, and a couple of times since.. If this is done right it is a dream come true for me, or at least, an answer to prayers..

The trailer was good for those of us who know the story, but it doesn’t capture the story for people who are not familiar, and seems confusing. The trailers should magnify in Hollywood style the awesome stakes, the destiny of this country and mankind. As far as releasing in April, unless this film has a distributor and a campaign, it will not get into theatres except as a side release, a fill until the big summer product is released in May, and there too is iffy. Working in the film exhibition business most of these dates are planned a year ahead at least, and not tossed off one’s wish list as symbolic gestures. The fact of Tax Day is nice, but the issue is business of the film, and a diligent and well planned effort and campaign are certainly required for the magnitude of this project, not the simplistic “toss it to the fates” that seems to prevail at the moment. This can be grand, and the time in history is certainly ripe, but controversy should surround this opening, as the book had and still possesses profound reality of the present condition, but also gives hope in truth. Please, seek a distributor, certainly the book has sold enough for any studio big or small to pick up the distribution.

Atlas Shrugged is the kind of story that can can be easily destroyed by either incompetence or by malice. If the producers really understood what Rand was saying it can be a great movie and a major game changer for the politics of the day. If the movie is done properly the audience will leave the theater both informed and terrified. One thing to watch for is how vehement the progressives and other Rand haters decry the film. The more they hate it the better it is likely to be.

I love it that it will be released on Tax Day (Ap. 15th) Absolutely perfect! But we want to see it then as well. Big open and all. Where are the locations? Cities at least. I’m in rural Arizona but will be happy to go to Phoenix or Vegas if we only knew where. Please advise!

FYI – Tax day this year is April 18. I, for one, am ecstatic that this story is finally coming to the screen for all to see. This movie will have enormous impact on the psychy (sp) of Americans and others around the world. It will be hailed as a clarion call for real freedom!!!

My guess is that it will be released in a few select USA cities. And depending on the money they make will depend on if they expand to many more US cities, or international cities. Being that there’s rumors for a part 2 and 3, I’d be very dissapointed if it didn’t do well and we couldn’t see the end of the book in movie form (for goodness sakes the last Harry Potter book was done in 2 movies). So my Canadian Friend, I would start using your social networking and shout from on top of the Twitter and Facebook mountain to get people to see this movie.

Adam, please realize that I agree with everything you said. I’m not in my late teens (when the book came out) but I’m in a healthy career and don’t want to see everything that my wife and I worked so hard for be taken by looters. Is there a possibility that since this is an independend film (again, reference Passion of the Christ) that the marketing of it is less of a concern moneywise to the makers of the film. The film will be released in a few select cities at first to get a feel of if it made money or not. Think “Blair Witch Project.” This movie is very important to get the Ayn Rand’s idea of Objectivism out especially now during our recession. We can lift ourselves out of this, sometimes it takes inspiration, and I hope this movie will do it for those who don’t want to read the book.

it may be wishful thinking…..the movie is not important to Objectivism…..it is important to the investor who may believe the core Rand audience ( who by the way are not Libertarion ) will create a trend that leads to a broader audience and $$$$$………..and thanks to whomever hit me with a ‘like’…..it really hasn’t been that difficult……and I really did have conversations with her and her husband while in the USMC years ago….she assisted in a decision to make it a career…………P.S. first one I read was “We The Living”

I live in Ottawa and am a long time fan of Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged. I would also very much like a Canadian city or two or twelve on the list. There’s a large US Embassy here – you wouldn’t want all of them to miss the movie, would you??

As far as I’ve gathered, it is not being screened in any Canadian cities at all for now. Cineplex has no plans to get it and I think there is one theatre in the GTA that’s considering it. It should be in Calgary, though: the heart of conservative Canada.

If there is a showing in the GTA could you give the location because I would do a road trip (from sudbury)

I have heard that the movie is being pulled in many theaters. I attempted to see it once I heard, but alas in CT it was pulled. Does anyone know if Atlas Shrugged will be on dvd? I would love to see it..

Movie theaters are not showing in almost all states! When will DVDs be available????

If it is being released on DVD on July 4th, where can we get it on the 4th?

There has been no official announcement on the DVD. There was a line buried in a press release which announced the web site for Part 2, that mentioned negotiations with a major studio for release of the DVD this fall … which would mean it would probably be available just in time for Christmas.

There was also a tweet on the Atlas Shrugged Movie twitter page that said there would be an announcement VERY soon.

That’s the most anyone from the outside knows so far … there could be an announcement tomorrow … or two months from now. We just have to wait and see.

For those interested, lots of our questions may be answered at this event.  Like when’s the DVD coming out and when will shooting start on Part 2.

I am waiting anxiously to see the movie – am partly through the book, but finding that it is a dead bore, largely an exercise in egoism – sure, who of us hasn’t thought “If i could just keep all these other moochers from stealing all my productivity, I could be truly great! Why, I should go on strike!”, but a second’s thought reveals that that kind of society absolutely won’t work – the selfish individualist society is in fact what we have now – and if we can’t altruistically work together for common good we are doomed.  She herself admitted that it was ‘unrestrained’ (that is, she knew it was wrong, so don’t take it too seriously).  I’m just waiting for the ‘entertaining’ part. 

PLEASE make it available in DVD ASAP. And PLEASE follow it with Part II and Part III. Then it should be followed by a film rendition of The Fountainhead.

And, keep in mind, the novel, like all intellectual work on human interaction/nature/society, is a best-attempt, a good effort.

It isn’t the final word.  This is just mathematical.  We are not deterministic (pre-determined).  Since we have free will, we are not predictable, thus….every system of specifying human nature short of the physical is a lot like long-range weather forecasting.
