Currently, the newest information about the movie’s release date is from John Aglialoro’s November 2010 interview with the Atlasphere, where he said:
TA: Is the movie still on track for a March release — or June, if accepted at a major festival?
Aglialoro: My initial and lingering aspiration was to have February 2, Ayn Rand’s birthday, be the date when it opens. And I recently saw Night of January 16th, Ayn Rand’s play that ran on Broadway in the ‘60s. So I wanted to have a private movie premiere the night of January 16, 2011, and a couple weeks later have the opening.
That sounds so tidy and poetically justifiable, but I think we’re going to have to take a look at March or April. No later than Tax Day, April 15.
UPDATE (Dec 2, 2010) – We have it on good authority that the producers are now, in fact, targeting April 15, 2011 — tax day — as the release date for the movie.
UPDATE (Dec 8, 2010) – The producers have now publicly confirmed that the target release date is April 15, 2011.
UPDATE (Apr 16, 2011) – Atlas Shrugged was released as scheduled in 299 theaters on April 15th. For its opening weekend, the independently produced and distributed movie accounted for a remarkable 15% of advance ticket sales at Fandango and received a positive rating from 85% of viewers at Rotten Tomatoes.
